Adhesion is the tendency of dissimilar particles and/or surfaces to cling to one another. The adhesive strength of paint and coatings are of crucial importance to enable the material to meet the basic functions of protection and decoration. Adhesion testing in the paint and coating industries is necessary to ensure the paint or coating will adhere properly.

Cross Cut Adhesion Test Kit CC1000

The TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC1000 is used to test the adhesion of dry coats of paint on their substrate by means of a series of cuts through the coating. Two series of parallel cuts cross angled to each other to obtain a pattern of 25 or 100 similar squares. The ruled area is evaluated by using a table chart after a short treatment with a stiff brush, or adhesive tape for hard substrates.

The round cutting knife of the TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC1000 has eight cutting edges that can be changed easily by rotating the knife. The self positioning knife bracket of the TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC1000) ensures equal pressure on the cutting knife.

Each TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC1000 contains a grip with cutter, a brush, an illuminated loupe and a roll of adhesive tape acc. EN ISO 2409.

Fully adjustable
The cutting depth of the TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC3000 can be adjusted while the cutter is guided by two ball bearings to assure reproducible results. The depth of the TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT CC3000 is adjustable to measure coatings up to 250 µm thick.

Adhesion Test Kit (HPK)

The TQC Adhesion Test Kit (HPK) is a method developed in the Netherlands by FOSAG and SKH. This method determines the adhesion of new and old paint layers on wood and wood like materials. The damage on the substrate will be reduced to a minimum. The adhesion is judged by comparing the removed paint on the tape and the remaining paint on the wood. Finally illustrations are used for classifying the damage from class 0 to 5. Delivery includes cutting tool and also tape.
The Tape For Adhesion Test can be ordered separately as well.

Tapes For Adhesion, Dust, Roughness and Temperature Tests

These different TQC tapes are suitable for carrying out various tests such as the adhesion-cross cut test, the dust test, the surface roughness test with the so-called Testex films, coarse or X-coarse and tapes for CurveX temperature tests.
The various tapes are specified according to standards in the item description. Tape material varies by application of the test.
The tape according to EN ISO 2409:2003, Polyester are individually or in sets of 3 to order.
The tape according to EN ISO 2409:1999, Glass-reinforced can be ordered on a roll of 10 meters or a roll of 50 meters.

The dust test tape to BS EN ISO 8502-3, Polyester which is supplied in the TQC SP3200 kit is ordered separately.
For rough surface testing the ASTM D4541 – 09e1 Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength of Coatings Using Portable Adhesion Testers, Testex tapes can be ordered in types x-coarse and coarse.
Tape for the open-wire temperature sensors used in the TQC Curvex temperature data logger system, “Reel glass tape” CX2200 is a roll of tape 19mm width, length 33 meters and is suitable for temperatures up to about 265°C

Dolly Drill For Adhesion Test

The TQC Dolly Drill is the perfect tool to remove the excess of glue and cut through the coating around dollies in order to prepare the dolly for the adhesion test. Fixed positioning is assured with the three strong magnets, allowing the drill to remove the coating around the dolly without putting any force on the dolly. Manually removing the access of glue and cutting through the coating is a hard job for inspectors that have to do many tests a day, which results in wrist and arm pains. The TQC Dolly Drill eases their work considerably, and increases the accuracy of the pull off adhesion tests because of a perfect vertical cutting movement down to the metal.
For the best reproducible results use the Adhesion tester AT, with the hydraulics and auto positioning feature of the pull-off head.

Adhesion Tester PosiTest ATM and ATA

The new PosiTest Adhesion Tester conforms to international standards including ASTM D4541/D7234, ISO 4624/16276-1, AS/NZS 1580.408.5 and others. Both models have a hydraulic pump. The pump of the automatic version is electronically controlled and applies smooth and continuous pull-off pressure. This greatly reduces user effort and the risk of influencing the pulling process.
Self-aligning aluminum dollies enable accurate measurements on smooth or uneven surfaces
The internal memory of the Manual version stores maximum pull-off pressure, rate of pull, test duration and dolly size for up to 200 pulls. The automatic version stores maximum pull-off pressure, rate of pull, test duration, dolly size, pass/fail, nature of fracture and user notes for 100,000 pulls in up to 1,000 batches in its internal memory and pull rate, pull limit and hold time are user-adjustable with the impact and scratch resistant color touch screen with keypad for operation with or without gloves.
Every PosiTest Adhesion Tester pressure system is calibrated and certified to ± 1% accuracy using a NIST traceable load cel. Evaluating measured values on PC is possible by using an adapter and PC-software.

The new PosiTest Adhesion Tester measures adhesion of coatings applied on metal, wood, concrete and similar substrates. There is a manual and an automatic model available.

Adhesion Test Pat Handy

The TQC Adhesion Test Pat Handy is an easy to use, lightweight hydraulic adhesion tester that applies an increasing level of pull off force to a dolly adhered to the surface under test simply by turning the handle. The adhesion test head has self adjusting legs, which ensure that the pull off force is always applied 90º to the coating even on uneven substrate surfaces. The self adjusting feature results in extremely accurate and reproducible adhesion test results. The TQC Adhesion Test Pat Handy weighs only 1250 gram and comes complete with an A4-size carrying 80 mm height case.

Pull Off Adhesion Tester Model Pat GM01 GM04

This Precision Pull Off Adhesion Tester is a hydraulic tensile tester that works on the so-called pull off principle, and complies with the requirements of ISO 4624. The system consists of a hydraulic hand-pump equipped with a precision manometer and the actual adhesion pull off testing head.
The coating testing-head is equipped with four cylinders that work according to the ‘Dynamic Force Distribution’ principle, whereby the force is brought to bear fully pulling off.

Different types of testing heads are available: a micro testing-head for measuring on very small coated objects, the standard testing-head for measuring of paint adhesion on on steel, and the large testing-head for measuring the coating adhesion on concrete and other stone surfaces with 50 mm diameter test-dollies. Adhesion test dollies come in a variety of dimensions and shapes (also for curved surfaces). A PC-adapter and related software is available for processing the measurement results by computer.

Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT (Master Paint Plate)

The TQC Cross Cut Adhesion Test KIT (Master Paint Plate) is a stainless steel measuring tool that features: a 1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm cross cut adhesion test according NEN-EN-ISO 2409:2003 and ASTM D 3359 (X-cut) Andreas cross.
Additonal tools
• Wet film thickness gauge ranging from 50 microns up to 160 microns.
• On the corners there is an edge grind checker for correct roundness of edges.
• At the bottom is a wet film applicator ranging from 0 to 180 µm.
• The top edge provides a leveling test, an indication of the viscosity of the coating.
Delivery includes cutting tool and tape.
