DENSITY

The density of paint will depend on their ingredients in the paint. Density is also known as specific gravity or mass per unit volume. The more ingredients/particles in paint the more mass per unit of volume. This is called density (S.G) can be written as g/cm3. The reference substance for liquids is nearly always water.

Specific Gravity Cups / Pycnometers

  • Standards: ASTM D1475, DIN 53217, ISO 2811
Specific Gravity Cup for determining the specific gravity or density (or weight per gallon wpg) of coatings, pastes or similar liquids.

  • Density is defined as weight per unit volume at a specified temperature.

  • Specific Gravity Cups (or pycnometers) are available in anodized aluminium and stainless steel, 100 ml. and 50 ml.
All models are supplied with a calibration certificate.

Pressure Density Cup

  • The TQC Pressure density cup can easily be taken apart to allow easy cleaning.
    Standards: SO 2811

  • Density or specific gravity (SG) is affected by entrapped air bubbles in the liquid under test. The TQC VF2095 SG-cup has a fixed internal volume of 100 ml. which is to be compressed by the mechanism of the density cup.

  • After rotation, agitation or dispersion gas and air can be entrapped within the material. Under pressure the air will dissolve better into the liquid and any bubbles that are left undissolved will be compressed to a fraction of their original size. Density of the liquid is defined at a very high level of repeatability by weighing.
The TQC Pressure density cup can easily be taken apart to allow easy cleaning.

  • STANDARDS
EN ISO 2811-4. Look up the appropriate standard for a correct execution of the test. The test may only be carried out if all parts of the pressure density cup have an identical serial number.

Immersed Body (Plummet)

  • Standards: ISO 2811

  • TQC Immersed body (Plummet) (DIN EN ISO 2811-2)
The Plummet method (Immersed body) is a universal instrument to determine the density of paints or related products. The method is based on ‘Archimedes’ principle.

  • The upward force caused by immersing the plummet into the liquid is read from a laboratory balance and expressed in grams/ml.
    Available sizes:
    • 10 ml, type X
    • 100 ml, type C
    (Robust and Calibratable type)

  • Comes in plastic case. Stand to be ordered separately.
An electronic weighing scale is required to perform the measurement.

Densimeter H-300S, Hildebrand

  • Densimeter to calculate the specific gravity. The density value is displayed automatically after the elapsed time.
    • Density resolution: 0,001 g/cm3
    • Scale capacity: 0,01….300g
    • Measuring time: air / under water <0 sec. / 0 sec.>, <0 sec. /2 sec.>, <2 sec. / 4 sec.>, <4 sec. / 8 sec.>, <8 sec. / 16sec.>

  • Automatic calculation of density. Compensation of water temperature. Able to measure floating sample in water. The volume of solid sample can be measured
